Achieving Higher ADC Resolution Using Oversampling

چکیده

To effectively strike a balance between system cost and accuracy, higher conversion accuracy is achieved by oversampling the low-resolution ADC integrated within a digital signal controller (DSC), and then processing the oversampled digital signal in software through a digital filter and a decimator. This processing scheme, which adds additional bits of accuracy to the 12-bit ADC conversion in a dsPIC® DSC, is explored in this application note. THEORY OF OPERATION

Built-In Test and Calibration of DAC/ADC Using A Low-Resolution Dithering DAC∗

This paper presents a BIST scheme to test and calibrate on-chip DAC and ADC and to improve both linearity and resolution of converters using a built-in sigma-delta modulator. We use a dithering dynamic element matching (DEM) techniques. A first-order sigma-delta modulator is used to sample DAC outputs because of high linearity of its outputs with high oversampling rate (OSR). The scheme is capa...

An Overview of Sigma-Delta Converters: How a 1-bit ADC achieves more than 16-bit resolution

This article briefly describes conventional A/D conversion, as well as its performance modeling. We then look at the technique of oversampling, which can be used to improve the resolution of classical A/D methods. We discuss how sigma-delta converters use the technique of noise shaping in addition to oversampling to allow high resolution conversion of relatively low bandwidth signals. Next, we ...

Designing of Droop Compensation Based Decimator for Sigma-delta Adc

In this paper, the designing of decimation filter for sigma-delta (∑-∆) ADC having different oversampling ratio (OSR) is described. The decimation filter perform the operation of down sampling of a high frequency, low resolution signal to Nyquist rate, high resolution digital output. The design of a decimation filter is projected that employs two stagesCascaded Integrator Comb (CIC) filters and...

A Low Oversampling Ratio 14-b 500-kHz ADC with a Self-Calibrated Multibit DAC

Delta-sigma ( ) analog-to-digital converters (ADC’s) rely on oversampling to achieve high-resolution. By applying multibit quantization to overcom stability limitations, a circuit topology with greatly reduced oversampling requirements is developed. A 14-bit 500-kHz ADC is described that uses an oversampling ratio of only 16. A fourth-order embedded modulator, four-bit quantizer, and self-calib...

Interpolation of Microcontroller Adc by Self- Induced Dithering

The resolution of ADCs (Analog-to-Digital Converters) can be improved by dithering, i.e. by intentionally injecting white noise into the analog signal. This work describes the theory behind dithering, how to optimize the magnitude of the noise and also a design that illustrates how dithering can be implemented to increase the resolution of a microcontroller’s ADC. In order to demonstrate the po...
